In the organic gardens, traditional aromatic herbs are produced – rosemary, savory, bay leaves, mint or lemon balm – which give the typical smells to Madeiran cuisine.
Organic eggs are also harvested and lettuce, leeks, cabbage, onions, tomatoes and others are planted. Lemon trees, orange trees, loquat trees, araçal trees and others proliferate in the orchards.
TRADITIONAL AGRICULTURE REQUIRES A LOT OF LABOR, INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE REQUIRES A LOT OF ENERGY AND THE SYSTEMS DESIGNED BY PERMACULTURE REQUIRE A LOT OF INFORMATION AND DESIGN. IN NATURE, ANIMALS SURVIVE AND THRIVE BY CONSTANTLY OBSERVING (USING DIFFERENT SENSES) AND INTERACTING WITH THEIR ENVIRONMENT. – DAVID HOLMGREN
